Ok, so here it goes... i was thinking about community, and that got me thinking about the metro parks.
Name That Ecosystem!!
intro: looking around lake county you can see, trees, deer, and a varity of animals. this gets me thinking, why not try and classify these animals, and plants?
Tasks:
you and a partner will go to the parks, and pick 5 different plants to look at and collect samples from, and 3 animals to classify. As this goes on you will turning in a jurnal of your visits of a minimum of 30 miniutes every day. of what you see, what you smell, and what you can feel. just be carefull of the poison oak! the final project will be a choice of a diagram, or a video from the point of view from a plant or animal specific to the parks.

Place of learning
Learning in one place limits the possiblilties for the mind to expand.
making it more of an open place to learn makes for a more open and enriched experience.
i feel we should make it more applicable if we teach students in the actual community, take them to the park to learn about the comminties history.
take learning to the streets, make it a cultural and intelectual learning experience.
local means to me, as the location you grew up in, and the sense of "home" you feel. within a community.

Blog 4
So one thing that sticks to my mind, is the orginal "IQ" test. The orginal test was made to see who needed more help in education, and now it is used to see who is "smarter" or more apt at certain subjects. This is not how education should be.
this is not for this class, sorry

Service
My first day at service, was a blast. I noticed right away, that this wasn't my "type" of crowd. Which is fine, but i realized that i could not bring my baggage with me. I had to be completely open, and ready to handle whatever the kids i was tutoring were going to throw out at me. Even though i felt a little uncomfortable, I was pleasantly surprised to find out the girl i was going to help with science was really interested in becoming a lawyer, which is fantastic, she also at 17 has written 2! books. She told me that she wouldn't want to publish them yet, that they were hers for now. I cant wait to go back, next week.

Interview/ website talk
I had an interview with one of my math teachers from high school. He wants a website that is user friendly, and that would give his students some extra practice.
I want to make a notes section for him, where he can just upload all of the problems onto the website.
He needs a link to his new teachers grade book, not for the kids to see, but for parents to see what their kids are missing in class.
There might be more to it than that, i want to link up pages for the other math teachers too.

Web 2.0
I feel like the main subjects for the program would be constant communication with the teacher. i.e. chat room, and have open notes for the class. with this kind of openness for the class room we could have a better source for learning. Even have verbal notes online. A parents section for the parents to know how to help the kids with thier homework.

Well here we go...Education 186-51
1. Elizabeth Sangdahl, Wickliffe Ohio, esangdahl13@jcu.edu
2. I prefer Elizabeth but I will respond to Liz.
3. I would love to be able to teach all levels of education, at some point in my life, but I will settle with middle and high school Math.
4. I live for kids, anything to do with them I'd do it. I also enjoy martial arts, doing it, watching it.. the works.
5. To be honest I'll take risks whenever I see fit.. if i have to, I will.
6. I am a hands-on learner, I will voice my opionion in class when I see it needs to be voiced, I will ask questions, I always try and be honest.
7. Im a tad bit scatterbraind, in a good way, I sometimes make circles with my explainations. I told you today in ED 253 about my home life at the moment.
8. I think any medical technology is amazing, but on the whole I feel technology criples some peoples learning.
9. Cell Phone
Computer
ipod
tv
10. I get my notebooks out and start my homework, usually with a calculator, and a laptop.
11. I feel computers and calculators are extreamly overused, and should be limited to absolutly nesicary.
12. I feel we should use the smartboards as a real tool, and use the website to help with after school help, i.e. with some sample questions, like webassign.net for the math classes.
13.
1. Why do you believe technology is so important to education, in an honest opionion?
2. Which piece of technology should be used the most in education?
